Me and Music

My name is Adam Nash and I am a violinist. I'm 27 and I'm based in Edinburgh. I play the fiddle for as many ceilidh/traditional bands as I can, throughout the UK. I am looking for more work and hope to go full-time by the end of the summer. I have an honours degree in Classical music and my first subject was Performance and my secondary study was Composition

I'm used to a lot of traveling with the bands I do play for and try to get as many foreign gigs as I can (don't we all?!).  I call a wide range of dances and have a vast repertoire of traditional, modern and my own tunes. I also do a lot of freelance session work and teach violin, viola, cello and piano when I have the time.

The kit

My violin is just a baby and was born in 2004. It took over a year to make by Mr James M Rawes of Carlisle. I tend not to use electric fiddles purely because with my excellent quality transducer and D.I box it would simply be a crime not to let her speak for herself. Also, I do a lot of acoustic performance.

I use a transducer for most of my ceilidh work in conjunction with a really great 'whirlwind EDB1' D.I. box. I get a smooth, rich signal and the whirlwind is ideal for a nice, balanced eq. The mic' fits nicely underneath the bridge and attaches itself to the underside of my shoulder rest.

Where and when

I am based in Edinburgh where I studied. Ideally, I would be gigging at least a Friday and Saturday but I would like to be more active musically, during the week. I will go where the work takes me and I have no limits on how far afield that may be. I do drive and I'm a tried and tested van hirer/driver. I don't have any points on my license.
